Verification of HIPAA Authorization
The ACMG supports medical information privacy. While the ACMG is not a "covered entity" under HIPAA 1996 and therefore is not required to meet these standards, ACMG wishes to take reasonable steps to ensure that the presentation of individually identifiable health information at ACMG-sponsored events has been properly authorized. Before their presentations, ACMG requires all faculty, speakers and moderators to confirm that they either will not present any individually-identifiable health information or that they have obtained and maintained the appropriate executed HIPAA forms for the individual health information they intend to present.
Financial Disclosure
Before their presentations, all faculty, speakers and moderators must disclose the existence of any financial interest and/or other relationship(s) they might have with the manufacturer(s) or provider(s) of any commercial product(s) or service(s) to be discussed during their presentation: receiving a salary, royalty, intellectual property rights, consulting fee, honoraria, ownership interest (e.g., stocks, stock options or other ownership interest, excluding diversified mutual funds), or other financial benefit. Financial benefits are usually associated with roles such as employment, management position, independent contractor (including contracted research), consulting, speaking and teaching, membership on advisory committees or review panels, board membership, and other activities for which remuneration is received or expected.
