Geisinger is a physician-led health system comprised of approximately 30,000 employees, including nearly 1,600 employed physicians, 13 hospital campuses, two research centers, and a 583,000-member health plan Geisinger is nationally recognized for innovative practices and quality care. Geisinger serves more than 3 million people in central, south-central and northeast Pennsylvania and also in southern New Jersey with the addition of National Malcolm Baldridge Award recipient AtlantiCare, A member of Geisinger. Geisinger has unparalleled resources for research. These include a system-wide electronic health record, in place since 1996; system-wide biobanking; extensive genetic data (whole exome sequencing and genotype data); data warehousing and translational research; a stable regional population in over 45 counties in Pennsylvania and New Jersey; and the Geisinger Health Plan, which allows the additional use of claims data for research. Geisinger’s research activities are currently organized in three primary departments, DEHSR, and 12 centers, programs, and institutes, including those focused on environmental health, genomics/precision health, obesity, cancer, and autism.
