Body Image, Contraception, Fertility, and Beyond: The Health of Women with Genetic Disorders

  1. The session will start with a brief Introduction to the special healthcare needs of women with genetic disorders. "Using clinical cases to illustrate preconception planning among women with inherited metabolic disorders" will use a case presentation format to discuss preconception readiness among women with IMD, including optimization of metabolic care, medication management, and carrier screening. (5 minutes)
  2. The presentation, "Living with skeletal dysplasia: body image, relationships, and sexual health among adolescents and women with skeletal dysplasias" will include discussion of  personal experiences living with spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia, as well broader themes related to body image, dating, and sexual health among adolescents and women with skeletal dysplasias. (15 minutes)
  3. "Fertility preservation among women with genetic conditions," she will feature discussion of fertility preservation for women at high risk of premature ovarian insufficiency due to a genetic disorder, including galactosemia, Turner syndrome and hereditary cancer predisposition syndromes. (15 minutes)
  4.  "Contraceptive use among women with inherited metabolic disorders: Current data and recommendations" will show work on contraception use among women with IMD and explore considerations for contraception selection in IMD and other genetic disorders and provide insights into how patients might benefit from discussions with medical geneticists regarding reproductive health. (15 minutes)
  5. "Management Considerations in Pregnant Persons with a Genetic or Metabolic Disorder"

These presentations will be followed by a panel discussion, during which presenters will accept questions from the audience and facilitate audience discussion about future directions in this field. (15 minutes)

  2. Present modalities for fertility preservation among women at risk for premature ovarian insufficiency or cancer
  3. Review data related to contraception use among women with IMD

  5. Discuss pregnancy and labor management for women with a range of genetic and metabolic disorders
