Step into a dynamic learning environment where theory meets practice in the realm of genetics and genomics. The Laboratory Genetics and Genomics (LGG) Alternative Certification Pathway presents a compelling workshop designed to elevate your expertise and deepen your understanding of molecular and cytogenetics.

Led by distinguished mentors who are faculty members of the LGG Alternative Certification Pathway, this workshop offers an unparalleled opportunity to engage with complex clinical cases. As you gather around tables with fellow learners, immerse yourself in the intricacies of molecular and cytogenetics testing, seamlessly integrating cutting-edge methodologies with real-world scenarios.

Throughout the session, faculty members will guide you through a series of captivating clinical cases, exploring genotype-phenotype associations, navigating the limitations of different testing methodologies, and delving into strategies for integrating cytogenetic and molecular results. From defining testing guidelines for specific disorders to unraveling the nuances of cytogenetic and molecular nomenclature, every aspect of genetic evaluation and troubleshooting will be thoroughly examined.

By the end of this immersive workshop, participants will emerge equipped with the knowledge and skills to:

  • Select the appropriate molecular and cytogenetics methodologies for the evaluation of genetic disorders.

  • Engage in informed discussions on genotype-phenotype associations.

  • Navigate the limitations of various molecular and cytogenetic methodologies.

  • Articulate approaches to the integration of cytogenetic and molecular results.

  • Establish testing guidelines for specific disorders.

  • Master cytogenetic and molecular nomenclature.

  • Implement strategies for the evaluation and troubleshooting of complex cases.

This workshop caters to Laboratory Genetics and Genomics training program fellows who aspire to complete the ABMGG LGG Alternative Certification Pathway. Whether you specialize in Clinical Cytogenetics and Genomics or Clinical Molecular Genetics and Genomics, this session promises invaluable insights and expertise to propel your career forward.

Spanning a comprehensive agenda with meticulously curated topics, the workshop offers a dual track approach:

  • Cytogenetics Track (10:00 - 1:00): Delve into pre-analytic cytogenetics, prenatal cytogenetics, cytogenetics of miscarriage/infertility, congenital microarray, and cytogenetics of hematologic malignancies.

  • Molecular Track (2:00 - 5:00): Explore genomic applications, inherited cancers, neurogenetics, repeat expansion disorders, and common Mendelian disorders.

Attendees have the flexibility to choose to focus on one track or participate in both, tailoring their learning experience to their specific interests and professional development goals.
