Angela Brooks
Professor,
University of California, Santa Cruz
Angela Brooks is a Professor of Biomolecular Engineering at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She is also an Affiliated Faculty of the UCSC Center for Molecular Biology of RNA and an Associate Member of the UCSC Genomics Institute. She was a Pew Scholar in the Biomedical Sciences and received the 2022 Outstanding Research and Professional Mentor Award from the Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics & Native Americans in Science (SACNAS).
The Brooks lab works on developing computational and experimental approaches to study cancer mutations that cause changes in the transcriptome, particularly through RNA splicing. Her lab has developed the computational tool toward a more comprehensive profile of the cancer transcriptome using long-read data. She recently co-led an international community effort to systematically evaluate long-read RNA-seq approaches called The Long-read RNA-seq Genome Annotation Assessment Project (LRGASP).
