Brenna is a board-certified research genetic counselor and program manager currently working in Dr. Wendy Chung's lab at Columbia University in New York, NY. She has a Masters in Genetic Counseling from the University of Washington and a Masters in Social Psychology from Arizona State University and previously worked at the University of Washington with the RAB (Research on Autism and the Brain) Lab and the Undiagnosed Diseases Network. Brenna has a broad background in research, with experience in population health, newborn screening, rare/undiagnosed diseases, autism spectrum disorder, and psychology. She is currently involved as research coordinator and genetic counselor on projects including the GUARDIAN and eMERGE population screening studies and the DHREAMS, CARE, and CHD-GENES studies of congenital anomalies. Program management efforts include assessing research measures and outcomes, managing research data, collaborating with project stakeholders, overseeing research assistants, and serving as a primary point of contact for research participants. Brenna directly interacts with participants and families on a daily basis to prioritize a family-first experience while facilitating meaningful, worthwhile research and advancing science. She is passionate about expanding access to research and care for people from underserved populations, as well as advocating for inclusive practices and flexible approaches to address disparities in research participation. Brenna has mentored students in the University of Washington and Columbia University genetic counseling graduate programs, participated in classroom sessions to support student development, and is currently serving on a thesis committee for a Columbia genetic counseling student. She is a current member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors, the American College of Medical Genetics, and the New York State Genetics Task Force. A Montana native and outdoors enthusiast, Brenna enjoys exploring NYC and regional landscapes.
