Casey Brewer
Cincinnati Children's Hospital
Dr. Casey Brewer is a Clinical Fellow in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. He did his graduate work at the University of Southern California, earning a doctorate in Systems Biology and Disease while researching transfusional iron overload. Casey's postdoctoral research described the clonal behavior of hematopoietic stem cells as well as the effect of the bone marrow niche on leukemic stem cells. After completing his research, Casey transitioned into clinical laboratory genetics, working as a variant curation scientist at Fulgent Genetics. During his time at Fulgent, Casey analyzed and reported a wide variety of genetic tests, including whole exomes, mitochondrial genomes, and hereditary cancer panels. He later became a genomic scientist at Kaiser Permanente, reporting chromosomal microarrays and performing clinical R&D work. Throughout his research and clinical careers, Casey's work has been featured in peer-reviewed publications and as invited presentations. Now, as a clinical laboratory fellow at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, it is Casey's goal to reach life-improving molecular diagnoses for individuals with genetic disease while optimizing the genetic tests that are available for individuals and families.
