Cate Paschal

Director, Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics, University of Washington
Cate Paschal, PhD, FACMG is the Director of the Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics Laboratory at Seattle Children's Hospital and is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Washington in the department of Lab Medicine and Pathology.

Cate received her PhD from Weill Cornell Medical College in New York and completed a research postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California Santa Cruz. Dr. Paschal completed fellowships in Clinical Cytogenetics and Genomics and Clinical Molecular Genetics and Genomics at the University of Wisconsin. She is board certified in both specialties by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics.

Cate returned to her hometown of Seattle in 2016 to join the faculty at Seattle Children's Hospital. As the director of an integrated cytogenetics and molecular genetics laboratory, she is responsible for the sign out of a variety of clinical tests for both pediatric oncology and constitutional disorders. Her interests include development of new clinical assays with a focus on techniques for characterization of structural variants. In addition, she serves the rotation site director for the University of Washington Medical Genetics residency program, Molecular Genetic Pathology Fellowship, and the Laboratory Genetics and Genomics Fellowship.
