Catherine Keegan

Professor of Pediatric Genetics, University of Michigan
Catherine Elizabeth Keegan, M.D., Ph.D., is the Director of the Division of Genetics, Metabolism, and Genomic Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics, Professor of Pediatrics and Human Genetics, and the Charles E. Lytle, Jr Research Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Michigan. She completed her Pediatric Residency at Children's Hospital of Boston and Medical Genetics Residency at the University of Michigan, where she has remained as a faculty member in the Department of Pediatrics. Her research interests have included genetic mechanisms of structural birth defect affecting the lower body, diagnosis of rare genetic diseases, and treatment of rare diseases with emerging novel therapeutics. She is a practicing clinical geneticist with expertise in Differences of Sex Development, Turner syndrome, and KDM5C-related intellectual disability.
Dr. Keegan has held numerous leadership roles throughout her career. She served as Medical Director of the Genetic Counseling Graduate Program from 2011-2016. She has served as the Program Director for the Categorical Medical Genetics and Genomics and Combined Pediatrics-Medical Genetics and Genomics Residency Programs since 2017. She became interim Director of the Division of Genetics, Metabolism, and Genomic Medicine in August 2021 and was named permanent Director in December 2022. She has served as Medical Director of the Michigan Medical Genetics Laboratories since 2022. She is Co-Director of the Michigan Medicine NORD Center of Excellence. She has a strong interest in Medical Genetics models of care and patient access to genetics services. She has participated in the Medical Directors Special Interest Group since 2022.
