Cathy Shyr
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
I am a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. I received my PhD in biostatistics from Harvard University in 2022. My research interests include developing risk prediction models for individuals with a genetic susceptibility to cancer and leveraging electronic health records to estimate growth curves for individuals with a genetic disease. In 2024, I received the K99/R00 award from the National Library of Medicine to develop statistical machine learning and AI models to shorten diagnostic odysseys for patients at the Vanderbilt Undiagnosed Diseases Network. My research focuses on developing AI and large language model-based approaches to aid in the earlier diagnosis of rare diseases. I am also developing causal inference methods that jointly analyze phenotypic, genotypic, and exposure data for individuals with a rare disease using data from the All of Us Research Program to help inform personalized disease management strategies.
