Medical Director, TCH Vascular Anomalies Center, Texas Children's Hospital
I am a pediatric hematology-oncology specialist and the Medical Director of the Texas Children's Hospital (TCH) Vascular Anomalies Center. The center has 24 physicians from 14 different pediatric specialties. We are a Sturge-Weber Center of Excellence, a Pediatric Comprehensive Center of Excellence in Lymphatic Disease and a National Lymphedema Network Affiliate Center. Together with neurosurgery, neuro-interventional radiology, neurology and genetics, we have formed the dedicated neurovascular program at Texas Children's Hospital and are one of the largest pediatric neurovascular centers offering coordinated multidisciplinary care. I am also the Associate Director of TCH Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT) Center.
As national and international recognition, I have been elected and served in multiple leadership roles for the ASPHO (American Society of Pediatric Hematology Oncology) Vascular Anomalies Special Interest Group (SIG) since 2013 (Education Committee Chair 2013-2018, Vice-Chair 2018-2020 and 2020-2022 Chair of entire ASPHO Vascular Anomalies SIG overseeing the Committees of Education, Practice and Research. I have presented at multiple conferences in the field, was invited to speak at local, national and international meetings and published extensively. I have opened clinical trials (multi-institutional, industry-sponsored and investigator initiated) aiming to make available all potential therapeutic options for our patients. I was elected in 2019 Secretary of CaNVAS (Consortium of Investigators in Vascular Anomalies) and I am currently serving in the Scientific Committee of ISSVA (International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies).
Vascular Anomalies is a multidisciplinary medical field where patients benefit from a cohesive treatment strategy involving medical, surgical and endovascular therapies. I strongly believe in teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration as the core of excellence of care for our patients.
