Isabelle is a third-year PhD candidate in the Department of Human Genetics at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology with a minor in Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2017. She was awarded the Hilldale Undergraduate Research Fellowship to complete a senior honors thesis studying the mechanisms used by fungi to adapt to temperature with Dr. Gregory Gauthier. Since joining the lab of Dr. Gabor Marth in 2021, her research interests have shifted to developing software tools for use in the diagnostic process of rare disease patients. Her work focuses on combining the properties of the Human Phenotype Ontology with sequencing data to create a visual and interactive representation of the similarity between patients in the Undiagnosed Disease Network. The long-term goal of this research is to create a tool that aids in providing disease solutions without requiring high-level programming or command-line skills, making it accessible to any member of the clinical team.
