My pediatric training was in India, followed by clinical genetics training in the UK, where I completed a diploma in Human and Clinical Genetics from the University of London. Subsequently, after 2 years practicing in India at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, I moved to New York. I completed a fellowship in Medical Genetics at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. In New York, now 30 years, my clinical practice areas include adult and pediatric genetic disorders, prenatal and cancer genetic counseling and cardiovascular genetics. I have a broad and varied clinical background and my focus is on clinical and lab diagnosis of rare genetic disorders, gene discovery and elaborating the phenotype and natural history of these conditions. I am committed to bringing the advances made in genomics to the clinic. As an educator, I have trained many medical geneticists and genetic counselors through the training programs at Mount Sinai. After many years as Professor of Genetics, Genomic Sciences and Pediatrics at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, I am currently Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Division of Clinical Genetics at the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
