Lev Prasov
Assistant Professor, Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences
Lev Prasov is a physician-scientist practicing comprehensive ophthalmology and ophthalmic genetics. He earned his undergraduate degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Michigan. Following his studies, he completed his medical and graduate studies as part of the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at the University of Michigan. His completed his PhD in Human Genetics in the laboratory of Tom Glaser. Following his medical school training, he completed his transitional year internship at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, and ophthalmology residency training at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye center. He subsequently completed fellowship training in Ophthalmic Genetics at the National Eye Institute (National Institutes of Health). He is now a NIH/NEI K08 scholar in the Departments of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and Human Genetics, and he has received funding for his work through the Knights Templar Eye Foundation, Glaucoma Research Foundation, the Bright Focus Foundation, the E. Matilda Ziegler Foundation, the ARVO Foundation Epstein Award, the Eversight Eyebank. He was awarded the ARVO/Alcon Early Career Clinician Scientist award in 2019 and the Glaucoma Research Foundation Shaffer Prize in 2023. The focus of his research and his clinical practice is on the genetic basis of isolated and syndromic developmental ocular disorders. He has a particular focus on the genetics of glaucoma and eye-size disorders and his work involves gene discovery, molecular and animal modeling of disease variants, and gene and pharmacological therapeutic development and testing.
