Philip Lupo
Professor and Endowed Chair in Molecular Epidemiology,
Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Center
Dr. Philip Lupo is a genetic epidemiologist, the Texas Children's Hospital Endowed Chair of Molecular Epidemiology, and the Director of the Epidemiology and Population Sciences Program at the Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Center. Dr. Lupo has an interest in leveraging population-based resources to identify novel predisposition factors for birth defects, childhood cancers, and other pediatric disorders. This is facilitated through his work in the Children's Oncology Group, where he is the Chair of the Epidemiology Committee, and the National Birth Defects Prevention Network, where he has served in various capacities including Chair of the Data Committee and President. An example of his currently funded research is the Genetic Overlap Between Anomalies and Cancer in Kids (GOBACK) Study, a multistate collaboration evaluating the risk of cancer in children with birth defects. The goal of Dr. Lupo's research is to discover factors that can be used in new prevention efforts and targeted interventions to limit the adverse consequences of childhood cancer and other pediatric diseases.
