Ruth Farrell

Dr. Ruth Farrell is an academic specialist in OB/GYN at the Cleveland Clinic who is dedicated to providing patients with the highest-quality, evidence-based, and innovative healthcare. She is a board-certified OB/GYN with a primary appointment in the OB/GYN Institute and secondary appointments in the Center for Bioethics and Genomic Medicine Institute and Professor of OB/GYN and Reproductive Biology at Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Farrell is the Vice Chair of Research at the Cleveland Clinic OB/GYN Institute, where she leads their research strategy and academic performance across a spectrum of basic, translational, clinical, and health services research. Her research focuses on the clinical, ethical, social, and legal/policy implications of new biomedical science and technology in reproductive medicine, focusing on outcomes, shared decision-making, and decision analysis associated with prenatal genetic screens and diagnostic tests. She received her M.A. in Bioethics and M.D. from Case Western Reserve University. Following residency in OB/GYN at University Hospitals of Cleveland, she completed the Greenwall Fellowship in Bioethics and Health Policy, a joint program hosted by Johns Hopkins and Georgetown Universities. During this time, she also served as the J. Benjamin Younger Fellow of Policy at ASRM in Washington, DC. From 2022 to 2023, she was a Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) Fellow, with continued efforts to support the career development of academic physicians.
