Genetics Physician Assistant
Wesley Patterson, PA-C, is a physician assistant/associate (PA) at the Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC) in Greenwood, SC and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine-Columbia. He is involved in the evaluation and treatment of genetic disorders in individuals of all ages. Wesley also has a special interest in genetics and genomics education for healthcare providers. He lectures and serves as a clinical preceptor for several physician assistant and medical programs.
Wesley received his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal and Veterinary Sciences from Clemson University in 2009 and his Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant from Radford University in 2014. Between undergraduate and graduate school, he worked in the molecular diagnostic laboratory as a laboratory technologist at the Greenwood Genetic Center for two years. Wesley received his PhD in Healthcare Genetics from Clemson University in 2022, and his dissertation focused on genetics and genomics education for PAs.
Wesley is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (2014), and he holds memberships in the American Academy of PAs (AAPA), South Carolina Academy of PAs, American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics, PA Education Association, Society for PAs in Pediatrics, and Society of PAs in Genetics and Genomics for which he is a founding member and serves as treasurer and webmaster. He is also a founding member and serves as the chief medical officer for the Clinical Genetics Advanced Practice Providers. He also serves as the GGC representative to the Inter-Society Coordinating Committee for Practitioner Education in Genomics and AAPA's external representative to the field of medical genetics and genomics.
