Marwan Tayeh
Associate Professor
Dr. Tayeh earned his PhD in Genetics at the University of Iowa, where he worked on further characterization of Bardet-Biedl syndrome, then he joined the Molecular Genetics and Genomics fellowship training program at Emory university. Dr. Tayeh have over 15 years of experience as the director of accredited clinical molecular genetic laboratories in both large national reference laboratory as well as academic laboratories. Currently Dr. Tayeh is an Associate Professor at the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics at Indiana University, Indianapolis. He is also the Director, of the Indiana University Diagnostic Genomics Laboratory and the Program Director of the Indiana University Laboratory Genetics and Genomics (LGG) Fellowship training program.
Dr. Tayeh's career has been mainly focused on adopting new comprehensive technologies, developing new algorithms and databases to facilitate massive data analyses, and advocating for improving standards and guidelines of genetic testing and reporting, which resulted in more than 30 publications as well as recognition both nationally and internationally. The impact of Dr. Tayeh's work has been incorporated into national and international standards for improving clinical genetics and genomics testing and patient care.
Dr. Tayeh is an active member of the ACMG and have been servicing on several ACMG's committees. While a member of the ACMG Laboratory Quality Assurance Committee, Dr. Tayeh led the efforts to create the the first technical standard of the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG) for clinical pharmacogenomic testing and reporting, as well as the first points to consider statement of the ACMG regarding the Designated Record Set (DRS) for clinical genetic and genomic testing.
As a current member of the ACMG International Outreach and Engagement Committee, Dr. Tayeh is the chair of the Middle East and North Africa subcommittee of IOEC, which is assessing the currently available Genetic services in the region.
