Dr. Mendelsohn is a clinical geneticist, healthcare executive, researcher with leadership experience and presently an independent consultant. In 2018 she joined UnitedHealth Group (UHG) as the CMO of the Complex Health Solutions (CHS) team. She was active across the UHG enterprise to provide clinical guidance and support to UHG's strategic priorities related to genomic medicine, working across Optum, UHG Research and Design, and UnitedHealthcare for 4 years.
Prior to her position at UHG Dr. Mendelsohn worked for 19 years at 400-bed Children's Hospital in Minnesota as genetics faculty and became chief of specialty pediatrics. Her role as Chief of Specialty Pediatrics at Children's Minnesota included the strategy and development of the multi-specialty physician practice.
Dr. Mendelsohn has worked for almost 30 years as a clinician in the field of medical genetics. She established the genetics service at Hennepin County Medical Center, built the genetics program at Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare and Children's Hospital Minnesota from as little as two clinicians to the largest genetics program in the Upper Midwest. She has served broadly on national committees for the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the ACMG, and the ABMGG.
She has more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters and presentations. Dr. Mendelsohn received a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology from Indiana University and an MD from the University of Missouri. She completed a residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in medical genetics at St. Louis Children's Hospital at Washington University in St. Louis
