Mayo Clinic
Dr Zinandré (Zin) Stander is a former Biochemical Genetics and current Laboratory Genetics and Genomics fellow at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Originally from South Africa where Dr Stander completed her PhD, she relocated to the United States to pursue her passion for genetics. Some of her most recent clinical interests and research is focused on the biochemical and molecular characterization of FAD synthase deficiency and differentiation thereof from other overlapping disorders, evaluating the feasibility of utilizing alternative, non-invasive specimen types for whole genome sequencing (WGS) to improve healthcare accessibility in underserved populations, and investigating the prognostic value of miRNA quantitation in patients undergoing partial liver resections due to malignancy or liver disease. She has also developed a keen interest in the diagnostic challenges posed by mosaic genome-wide uniparental disomy.
