Dr. Subit Barua is a laboratory director at West Virigina University, School of Medicine specializing in diagnostic genetic testing, genomic data interpretation, and the identification of molecular variants associated with inherited and acquired disorders. His work focuses on utilizing advanced technologies such as next-generation sequencing, whole exome sequencing, and cytogenetic microarray analysis to support precision medicine and guide individualized patient care. In collaboration with hospital administration, Dr. Barua has played a key role in laboratory development and expansion efforts, including strategic planning, infrastructure implementation, and enhancement of genomic testing services.
He is also actively involved in resident and fellow teaching, providing didactic lectures, case-based learning sessions, and hands-on training in molecular diagnostics and genomic test interpretation, while mentoring trainees in translational research, research methodology, laboratory quality assurance, and the ethical considerations of genetic testing. His research centers on the role of genomic profiling in improving diagnostic accuracy, identifying pathogenic variants linked to germline, hematologic, and oncologic conditions, and evaluating how specific genetic alterations influence patient management, treatment response, and long-term outcomes; he has additionally contributed to studies examining genotype–phenotype correlations and the clinical utility of integrating genomic data into routine laboratory workflows
