Information for International Travelers

Do I need a visa to travel to the United States of America?

If you are not a United States citizen and are planning to attend the ACMG Annual Clinical Genetics Meeting, advance planning is critical. Foreigners traveling to the United States to attend a professional conference must have a Visitor Visa (B) unless qualifying for entry under the Visa Waiver Program.  Conference attendees are considered business visitors. Attendees who qualify for the Visa Waiver Program must obtain approval for entry through the ESTA system, and are encouraged to apply well in advance of their travel dates.

How long does the visa application process take?
Processing times vary, check the anticipated processing time for your city here. We suggest that you begin the visa application process as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Where should I apply for a visa?
For general Visitor Visa information, see here. Please consult this list to determine how to apply for a Visitor Visa (B) in your country.

Visa Invitation Letter Requirements

A letter of invitation from ACMG is available to include in your visa application if necessary. Complete this form to request a visa support letter.
Letters of invitation can only be issued for the person attending the meeting.  We cannot issue letters of invitation for guests of participants. Each person must request their own letter; you may not request a letter for someone else.

Note: Obtaining a Letter of Invitation from ACMG will not guarantee that your United States visa application will be approved.  The letter is merely supplementary information that explains a visa applicant's intended purpose of travel to the United States.  The decision to issue a visa is the sole judgment of the local United States government. ACMG is unable to assist in any way with visa processing or influence the decision to issue a visa.

Step 1. Schedule your interview
Step 2. Register for the meeting
Step 3. Request a visa support letter from ACMG
Step4. Attend your interview

Should issues arise during the visa process and you are concerned that you may not receive your visa in time for the conference; you should contact the ACMG Office immediately. If you are not able to attend the conference due to visa issues, you can email acmgmeeting@acmg.net to cancel your registration. You will receive a refund minus a 25% processing fee if submitted by the registration cancellation cutoff date. If submitted after the registration cancellation cutoff date  you will not receive a refund. Please refer to the Refund Policy on the Registration Page for the full details.
