The E3 Genomics Pathways Program
The E3 Genomics Pathways Program addresses the growing workforce shortage in clinical genetics and genomics by providing early career exposure to high school and college students. Led by ACMG in collaboration with SACNAS and the LA Career Academy and funded by NHGRI through an NHLBI contract, the program engages students in hands-on learning, career development, and professional networking. By fostering awareness of genetics careers, it supports national efforts to build a more inclusive and skilled genomics workforce, ultimately improving patient care and addressing workforce disparities.
The program is structured in three phases:
Phase 1 Engage: Students will participate in a one-day immersive experience at the 2025 ACMG Annual Clinical Genetics Meeting in Los Angeles.
The day includes:
- 9:00 AM: Arrive at Room 409 AB, meet with the Program Manager and E3 Program Committee members, introduce the program, and engage in didactic activities.
- 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM: Explore the Exhibit Hall, experience the Day of Caring, participate in a Poster Walk, learn about genetics careers, and network with experts.
- 12:30 PM: Special lunch with experts, providing insights into their daily work and interesting cases.
- 1:15 PM – 3:00 PM: College students attend ACMG’s Careers Workshop while high school students engage in didactic activities.
This experience offers hands-on learning, career exploration, and networking opportunities with professionals in genetics.
Phase 2 Equip: April 2025 – February 2026. Students will gain ongoing support through monthly virtual experiences, including access to ACMG’s educational resources and webinars.
Phase 3 Empower: April 2025 – February 2026. Students will participate in quarterly virtual mentoring sessions with genetics professionals, who will provide long-term career guidance.
